The Iris is delivered with pre-cut, dried and smooth-planed Douglas timber, an instruction manual and plans, along with special fixing screws and drill bits. Some construction experience is recommended, and while straightforward, certain skills are needed for assembly. Choose your preferred roof trim finish and ground anchoring option to suit your garden's ground type.
Douglas Fir comes from well-managed forests and is one of the most durable softwood species, prized for its warm colour, texture and toughness. Falling within timber durability class 3-4, it's ideal for garden buildings, with a resinous heartwood ranging from amber pink to reddish brown that weathers gracefully over time or can be treated to preserve its natural colour.
- Treat the Douglas Fir timber periodically with a suitable wood preserver, stain or oil if desired
- Check roof trims, drainage outlet and anchoring points periodically for wear or blockages
- Test the lockable door mechanism periodically and lubricate if needed
- Re-tighten fixings periodically as the timber settles after installation
