For flat roofs, calculate packs needed as length x breadth ÷ 3. For apex roofs, use the approximate calculation of (length x breadth x 1.3) ÷ 3, which also accounts for a double layer on the first row and enough material for the ridges. A membrane or roofing felt underlay isn't generally required for leisure buildings, though IKO now recommends their Glass Fibre Underlay 20m (Type 3B) as an extra protective layer in case shingles lift. Felt shingle glue is recommended on ridge tiles and leading roof edges, especially in colder months or exposed locations, and roofs with a gradient under 10 degrees need increased overlap, glue on every tile, and a felt underlay to guard against wicking and leaks.
IKO is a globally recognised roofing manufacturer, and these felt shingles reflect decades of proven use protecting log cabins and garden buildings around the world. The self-sealing bitumen strip and clean straight profile combine practical weatherproofing with a natural, understated finish.
- Check shingles periodically for lifting, especially after high winds or heavy rain
- Reapply or top up shingle glue on ridge tiles and leading edges if lifting is noticed
- Clear debris such as leaves and moss from the roof surface periodically
- Inspect the roof annually as part of general garden building maintenance
