- For flat roofs, calculate length × breadth ÷ 3.
- For apex roofs, use approximately ((length × breadth) × 1.3) ÷ 3. This allowance helps cover the double layer on the first row and the ridge tiles.
IKO Felt Roof Shingles are not recommended for roof gradients below 10 degrees. On lower gradients, additional overlap, roofing felt underneath and shingle glue on every tile are recommended to help protect against wicking and leaks.
IKO recommends using IKO Glass Fibre Underlay 20m (Type 3B) beneath the shingles. If you choose to use a membrane, standard roofing felt is also a suitable option for many garden-building projects.
For added security, especially during colder months or in exposed locations, use bitumen shingle glue on the ridge tiles and the first leading-edge tiles. Glue can also be used across the roof where additional fixing is required.
